The Tzolk'in Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

eravau: With the damage done to the cache location... and the current construction being done on the new Missouri River bridge... I'm going to say that it's had a good enough run. Thanks to all who found this cache!

Geocache Description:

Above coordinates are NOT for the cache!

The Mayans had a rather intricate understanding of the passage of time and the meaning of each day that passed. In order to follow time's passing... they maintained several concurrent calendars to track civil and religious events... as well as historically significant occasions in ages past. This cache commemorates the Mayan sacred calendar, known as the Tzolk'in.

Much like with our calendars, the Mayan Tzolk'in numbered their days and named them as well. It's something like how we name Monday through Friday, but also number them the first through thirty first as well. How many day names? What are they? How many numbered days? That's for you to research and then come back to solve this puzzle!

The cache is located at North AB° CD.EFG West HI° JK.LMN.
  • AB = the number of days from 1 Imix to 13 Kawak
  • CD = the number of days from 10 Kib to 3 Lamat
  • EFG = (the number of days from 4 Muluk to 12 Ajaw) multiplied by 5
  • HI = the number of days from 5 Ok to 4 Ajaw
  • JK = the number of days from 6 Imix to 12 Kawak
  • LMN = the number of days in two full cycles of the Tzolk'in year minus 203
