Bushy Beach (North Otago) Traditional Cache
Bushy Beach (North Otago)
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The natural coastal vegetation at Bushy Beach Scenic Reserve is the last remaining in the area. Wind-sheared scrub, dominated by hebe, ngaio, mahoe and broadleaf, clings to the cliffs and shelters penguins, and other seabirds, and a variety of insects.
The Hoiho or Yellow-Eyed Penguin is considered to be the world's rarest penguin, they nest in the mud banks along the length of Bushy Beach and can be viewed in the early morning or late afternoon as they depart for or return from a day fishing. Binoculars are useful here.
NOTE: Please respect this area and follow the DOC signage, it is important that you do not disturb the birds in their daily routine.
You may access the beach before 3pm.
The cache is a 600 ml plastic jar with logbook only and is placed above the beach up on the small terrace in a stack under stones
