Geocache Description:

You are hunting a micro container hidden at the end of Bankhead Hwy. BYOP.

The bridge to nowhere, aka Bankhead Hwy, was built in 1912 and resides on the western end of GA Tech campus. The bridge used to be one of the major western routes out of Atlanta before I-20 was built and once moved 4,000 vehicles a day over the CSX railroad. The bridge closed in 1991 because it was unstructurally sound for traffic, found to have a sufficiency rating of 0, and it waited in limbo for funding from a part of Atlanta’s $94 million bridge restoration bill. The money and the restoration never came and the bridge sat for years becoming a homeless encampment. At some point the ramp connecting the bridge to Marietta St was torn down and a parking lot built in its place. In 2000, city residents voted on a $750,000 bill for the removal of the bridge which failed to pass. The bridge now sits fenced off from all traffic on the west and hangs in mid-air on the east.

Your hunt will take you to the eastern side of the bridge. You cannot access this cache from Northside Dr and you do not have to go into any restricted, fenced off areas. To access the cache you will have to find the parking lot that was built after the bridge's ramp was demolished and you can drive right up and park next to your destination, directly under the end of Bankhead Hwy. If you want to get some good photo ops you can drive around to the western side of the bridge and snag some shots simliar to what is here on the cache page.
