Geocache Description:

NO: Ca 8 km nordvest av Sortland ligger det gamle handelstedet Jennestad. Handelstedet er over hundre år og var i bruk helt frem til 1982.

EN: Approximately 8km northwest of Sortland is the old tradepost Jennestad. The tradepost is over hundred years old, and was in active use until 1982.

Lukten av gammel skråtobakk, kaffe og eau de cologne anes når du entrer dørene i den gamle Bryggen som i dag er Handelsmuseum. Her inne i kroker og kriker, bak 17 meter disk og i 222 skuffer ligger alt gjemt. Gjenstandene, luktene og ikke minst minnene. Museet drives av MuseumNord og Bryggen eies av Sortland kommune.

I dag er Jennestad Handelssted en arena for kunst-formidling og et sted for opplevelse av billedkunst og skulptur, konserter eller litteraturkvelder. Hovedgården ble bygget i 1917 og er under stadig restaurering tilbake til fordums prakt. Den gamle hagen på Jennestad ble anlagt før hovedgården og er nå også under restaurering. Der presenteres fra sesongen 2012 tilsammen 7 bronseskulpturer. I tillegg til hovedgården med sin tjenerfløy er verksted/materiallager og mellager gjenoppbygget.

Cachen er en lock'n'lock boks. Tilgang kan avhenge av tidevannet.

There is a hint of old tobacco, coffee and Eau De Cologne in the air as you enter the old wharf building, now converted to a trade museum. In the many corners, behind 17m counter, and in the 222 drawers you can can find it all hidden - the items, the scents, and the memories. The museum is run by MuseumNord and the building owned by the municipality of Sortland.

Today, Jennestad Tradepost is an arts cente, where you can experience concerts, literature evenings, paintings and sculpture. The main building dates back to 1917, and is being continuously restored to its old grandeur.

The old garden at Jennestad was created before the main building. It is also being restored and contains at the time of writing 7 bronze sculptures. In addition to the main buildings with the servant wing, a material storage building and a flour storage has been rebuilt.
