A celebratory cache for the end of the world! Lets hope we survive today so that you may hunt tomorrow!
This area of town looks like the end of the world has already come (economically, it did a while ago.) You are hunting a nano container at the edge of the old GM Lakewood Assembly Plant that closed its doors in 1990. Back when it was in operation, the southside of the city was a thriving manufacturing machine and the plant employeed thousands of Atlantans. Lakewood assembled Chevrolets, Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles and Buicks at various points in their history, and also began assembling Chevrolet and GMC trucks from 1929 through 1986. The 1990 model year Chevrolet Caprice B-Body model line was the last vehicle produced here. At the time of its demolition some years later, Lakewood was a 2,600,000-square-foot (240,000 m2) facility. Now it sits as a huge concrete eyesore to the neighborhood.
This past Summer during the 2012 Living Walls conference in Atlanta, Argentinian artist Hyuro painted a mural on this corner depicting a frame-by-frame series of a nude woman dressing in a black jumpsuit and then disrobing again. The jumpsuit then transformed into the body of a wolf and walked off. This sparked a major controversy in the neighborhood until the mural was vandalized in November and ultimately buffed. Check out the extra link to see what this corner looked like just months ago.
The best parking for this cache is on one of the residential streets nearby. There is a pull-off on Sawtell Ave if you are adventurous. There is a MARTA stop near the cache so beware of bus muggles. BYOP.
