The Mock Turtle is a character in Lewis Carroll's book, Alice in Wonderland.
As you may know, Lewis Carroll was born in the Warrington area, at the Parsonage not too far away from the nearby village of Daresbury, near to this cache.
There are fantastic stained glass windows in Daresbury church, depicting some of the characters from Carroll's books. Why not go in any have a little look? The church is usually open and the staff are very welcoming.
There is a brand new "Lewis Carroll Centre" at the church, not big, but very interesting.
Why the "Mock Turtle?":
Then the Queen left off, quite out of breath, and said to Alice, "Have you seen the Mock Turtle yet?"
"No," said Alice. "I don't even know what a Mock Turtle is."
"It's the thing Mock Turtle Soup is made from," said the Queen.
(Alice in Wonderland, chapter 9)
the cache is small, but big enough for a few toys and bits, and TB's, although we didn't have one to put in the cache, sorry.
Please be careful with little cachers, because the cache is near to the canal, and please beware of barbed wire.
