Cache on top of some rocks south of the Cypress Trail.
Sometimes I look at my geo-friend's caches. Imagine my surprise when I saw "yesterday...2 days ago...3 days ago...4..." on Team OPJim's list of cache finds. It must indeed be the end of an era. Those ancient Mayans had it figured out!
I placed this cache in honor of the end of the era.
Park at the end of Phoenix Street and hike east on the Cypress Trail toward the Boulders Loop. When you are about perpendicular from the cache, go up the hill and climb up the boulders to the waypoint at N 34 13.386 N 111 17.075. Keep going a bit south for a great viewpoint (see photo). Go west and a bit south from the waypoint to the cache. It is located in a spot where you can't go much further without wings or a rope.
The climb is not too bad if you find the easiest route. The granite is good footing when it is dry. Please do not attempt this cache if it is snowy or icy (unless you are an ice climber).
If you are hiking from the south, the climb to the waypoint is easier than from the Cypress Trail.
