Elephants are one of Sri Lanka's many national treasures. Many of these animals have become domesticated over the years. This is both good and bad. Although it is preferred that the animals be allowed to roam in the wild, domestic animals are protected from the problems encountered between the conflict of man and elephant over farm and nomadic grazing lands. Elephants are very smart, and as such, domestic animals are at high risk of boredom. In the wild, elephants spend most of the day foraging for food, whereas domesticated animals are provided their food and therefore remain unchallenged. For this reason, it is very important that enrichment is provided to stimulate their high intelligence. Nearby this traditional cache, you can witness domestic elephants learning to play with enrichment toys. It's quite funny so make sure you bring your camera!
This cache is only accessible between 9am and 4pm. It is a small lock-n-lock plastic box large enough to hold several trackables.
