Geocache Description:

BPJC2
Hoar Stone

You are looking for an 850ml plastic peach jar.

Sat between the villages of Edgeworth and Duntisbourne Leer the remains of a large Neolithic long barrow can be found. Only a slight raised mound is all that is left of the chambers. There are some fallen stones on top of the mound, but it's most prominent feature is a large upright stone on it's eastern side... the hoar stone, which sits along side a dead tree.

For the nervous, this is a cache best visited during the day, for folklore tells of most peculiar goings on at night. One tale tells of the stones turning themselves over at midnight. Another says that when the stones hear the nearby clock strike they run around the field.

The cache is placed in an easy to reach location on the side of a quiet lane. Long term parking is difficult because the lanes are narrow, but it is possible to pull over on the grass verge not far from the cache for a brief stop. The hoar stone itself is located about 250m SE of GZ in the field.
