den sure kalkun: Well, this one never worked out as we'd hoped. Mrs Kalkun suggested we make a bellydancing cache. As Geocaching is to me, so bellydancing is to her. It is her #1 pasttime, and if you ask me, she's rather good at it. Copenhagen's bellydance community is still going strong, and its shows still attract guests and audiences internationally.

I always knew that the predominantly geeky mystery community in Danish Geocaching and the artform that is dance wouldn't mix too well, and that was actually a strong motivation for me to do this. It's not all about pi, javascript and Vigenere ciphers. Remember to let a little colour into your lives.

Geocache Description:

Tribal Style Belly Dance

Tribal Style Belly Dance is a newly developed, modern fusion dance loosely derived from Oriental bellydance with strong influences from Flamenco, Oriental Folkloric and Contemporary Dance. The foundation of this new genre is "American Tribal Style" (ATS) Belly Dance, which is an improvised group dance. During an ATS performance the dancers work together to improvise and create the dance using moves and combinations that are cued and controlled using body language and hand movements.

The ATS format was developed by the American dancer and instructor Carolena Nericcio (FatChanceBellydance) to allow women to be able to dance together in a variety of situations. The genre is recognized worldwide with a vibrant and rapidly growing dance environment. ATS has spawned various branches of fusion dance, such as Tribal Fusion, Dark Fusion, Gothic Tribal, Hip Hop Fusion and Gypsy Fusion. These fusion genres work more intensely with core muscle strength and solo dance and can be choreographed or improvised.

Denmark has its own Tribal Style Bellydance organisation, Tribaldance Denmark situated here in Copenhagen. This association exists to raise awareness of the Tribal Style genre in Denmark, facilitate cooperation with international Tribal Style dancers and arranges workshops and performance events. Tribal Café is a semi-regular performance event that has taken place 2-3 times per year since 2010. The video you are about to watch was filmed at Tribal Café VI in October 2011 in Metronomen, Frederiksberg. It is an "ATS Jam" where a large group of dancers come together and dance ATS. Remember, this is completely improvised - it is not choreographed.
