Approach Into London Heliport
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
LOCATION:
London Heliport (EGLW) or sometimes known as Battersea Heliport is located on the south side of the River Thames between Wandsworth Bridge and Cremorne Railway Bridge in the London Borough of Wandsworth.
THE HELIPORT:
The Heliport has been in operation since 1959. This is a very small site, making use of a jetty in the Thames to provide a helipad for take-off and landings, and onshore space for between three and four aircraft, depending upon size. The owners of the heliport have changed hands quite a few times over the years.
Originally providing a service to the business community requiring quick access in and out of the City to escape the congested road networks. It now also caters for both leisure and the emergency services, such as the Air Ambulance and Police Air Support units.
The original heliport’s terminal was next to the control tower but is now inside part of the ground floor of the hotel.
THE CACHE
This is an ideal cache for exploring the Thames Path or aircraft spotting both helicopters and bigger aircraft on final approach into Heathrow (EGLL).
Your task is to find the cache. The location is on the Thames Path near to the heliport so this can only be done on foot or bike. (Even if you arrive by air you still need to walk to the cache location.) Once found sign the log. You will need your own pen or pencil. Then put the container back as you found it. The hard part is can you do this without muggles seeing you?
If you are going to swap anything please make sure you put something back into the cache for others to find. Also log any swaps in the logbook or online so that I can keep track of what should be in or out of the cache.
#### Well Done to Tyke you are first to find and log my cache. 4 January 2013 ####
Good luck and look forward to reading your logs.
