Geocache Description:

St Mary Magdalene - Monkton

The church of St Mary Magdalene sits on probably the highest point of land within the village of Monkton, its tower being visible from many points throughout the area. A quintessential English country church of Norman styling, it appears in the Domesday survey of 1086 and is the smallest of the seven remaining ancient churches on the Isle of Thanet. The present building dates from around 1190 although it was rebuilt extensively in the 15th century, when it received a new roof with king posts and tie beams, and the north aisle was blocked up and new windows inserted. The north porch of the church was probably built around the same time, as was the top stage of the tower. St Mary Magdalene church received Grade I listed building status as far back as 1963, such is it's architectural importance.

The cache is located outside the church grounds, and can be located at N51 20.ABC E001 16.DEF
