An easy find in a very scenic view point, but will take 1.5 hours of walking up a well formed track for 450 vertical meters for the spectacular panoramic views embracing Lake Wanaka, the Matukituki River and mountains of the Soutern Alps with glaciers off in the distance.
Rocky Mountain view point is at the top of a loop track in the Diamond Lake Conservatory Area near Wanaka.
Take the Mt Aspiring Road from Wanaka township towards the West. Before the Treble Cone ski resort turnoff is reached, there is a sign posted DOC car park with information board and map on how to walk to Diamond Lake.
Follow the well marked track, suggest going up via the westward track and returning via the eastward track.
There are other view points along the way. Cache is 1 liter sistema container with log book and space for trackables etc.
