Geocache Description:

There is a entrance to the right side of the gate into the Mt Crawford Forrest reserve.  Stay on the main walking track untill the last 100m.  The Cache is located in the ruins of the original Gregory house.

Mr and Mrs Gregory left Belford England and arrived in Kangaroo island in April 1837 on the ship Hartley.  By 1840 they left Weymouth Adelaide where they had lived for a couple of years.  They rented 2 sections of  land from the SA company at Gumeracha.  It took them 2 days to get to Gumeracha with their posessions.  Ath the time there were only 2 other homes in Gumeracha.  They planted their first wheat crop with a spade and hoe and harvested it with a sickle.  They carried their crop to adelaide and bartered for other goods.  Mr and Mrs Gregory lived in the same house until their deaths.  They found the Narayerie Aboriginal tribe in the area peaceful and honest.  The Gregorys also had horses and cows.
