Geocache Description:

Just off Dewey Bald Trail in Henning Conservation Area near Branson, MO. Trail is paved. Cache is off the trail in the woods, a bit. Enjoy the visit! Climb the tower and enjoy the views!

Dewey Bald Cache

Located in the Ruth and Paul Henning Conservation Area northwest of Branson in Taney County. Along Highway 76 out of Branson, past Shepherd of the Hills Parkway, but before you get to the Shepherd of the Hills Farm and Theater area.

“Cedar glades and balds are things common to our Ozark Mountains. Paul & Ruth Henning (creator of the sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies) bought and ask to have protected by the State of Missouri all this land here on Dewey Bald & overlooking the Roark Valley. This State Park is inside the City of Branson, within it's city limits. The State Conservation Department maintains it.” Borrowed this good description from the Glade Cache site! Be sure visit it, too, while you are here, if you haven’t already. We did both in an hour or so, total time, lots of rest periods.

Dewey Bald Trail goes to the right, up the hill, from the right side of parking area. You go by a Restroom, almost immediately, then on up the paved trail walk. The trail winds back and forth, several nice benches along the way. Path splits and circles, both sides get to the Lookout Tower. Easy twenty minutes round trip, if you keep moving. Good trail for seniors, even those not too active.

Placed the cache, our first, near the top of the trail. We have provided some pictures of the Shepherd of the Hills Tower from the top of the Lookout Tower (I didn’t really go clear up!) as well as one of Branson, itself. A little hazy when we took the pictures, but you get the idea…. ;-)

Cache is clear plastic round container with a white top, marked Dewey Bald Cache.[Note: 3-15-2003 update: cache box replaced - it is now a flat, oval, blue-rimmed Rubbermaid clear container!]Note: 3-25-2004, got verbal approval for site, "Special Use Permit" paperwork in process.
