In 1883, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve was established.
In 1951, it received more protection under the Nature Reserves Ordinance which was enacted under the National Parks Act.
The 163-hectare reserve retains one of the largest tracts of primary rainforest left in Singapore. The forest has been a botanical collecting ground for more than a century, where the first known specimens of many species of Malayan plants were obtained. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is also home to Singapore's highest hill at 163.63 m. Composed mainly of granite, Bukit Timah Hill (BTH) was once an active quarrying site in the mid-1900s.
In this forest, you may come across animals like snake, tortoise, flying lemur, bird, fish, monkey, squirrel, etc ...; please stay a distance away from them; bring along your camera to capture these animals in their natural habitat if you want (if you are able to spot them!).
There are several hiking paths and one of the toughest route is via Dairy Farm Loop heading upto North View Path or Seraya Loop (or vice versa). There are few flight of stairs which post the most challenging - be it up or down. You can either enter by Dairy Farm entrance or the Visitor Centre entrance @ Hindhede Drive; car parking lots are available there.
PS :
- Hiking into the forest after 3pm is not recommended and find a partner to go along especially if you are new to this forest.
- When there is thunder storm, strong wind or rain, move out quickly from the forest.
- No bashing is needed for this cache.
- Bring your own water and wear proper hiking shoes are strongly recommended (option is walking sticks to assist in the stair climbing).
