This is one of our favourite areas for a desert drive so we thought it deserved its first geocache. It is not for the faint hearted or inexperienced desert driver, the only way in is by 4x4 unless you happen to have a team of camels! Best approached either from south of Sweihan on the E16 or from close to Al Ain Airport for the best dune lines.
This is an area for a team experienced desert drivers and certainly not for novices. As always be prepared, take recovery gear, drive in a group of vehicles and ensure you have plenty of water. Don't forget to let someone know where you are going, there is little to no mobile coverage here. The dunes vary from short and sharp which are hard work to cross and technically demanding on the driver, to very high with sweeping views, deep bowls to trap the unwary and long slip faces which need to be negotiated with care. The sand here has little vegetation so you can concentrate on finding a line through the dunes. However this part of the desert is rewarding if explored enough. You'll come across a valley of trees, a burnt out wreck, shallow pools and more. Somewhere in all of this is ground zero. Just how many legs it has is for you to decide but it does look as if it could simply shake the sand off its feet and march off across the dunes!
Don't forget your camping gear or a picnic - this valley looks like a great spot to spend sometime
The cache is a stumpy polypropylene screw top container in a sock and contained initially a variety of small erasers shaped like tiny items of food. The log book and pencil are also tiny but we squeezed in a TB as a reward for the first to find.
