Geocache Description:

A nice quick cache whilst out looking for Lynda . . . . . .

Whilst looking you will get great views of Fife and the nearby Grangemouth Refinery which is a major landmark. You will normally see it has numerous gas flares and cooling towers and these are visible across a wide area of the Scottish Lowlands.

This is the only refinery of its type in Scotland and is infact only one of 9 in the UK.  The site has been used for this since 1924 and is the second oldest in the UK.  At present it has the capacity for processing 210,000 barrels of cude oil on a daily basis which is transformed into

  • Petrol - 22%
  • Diesel - 24%
  • Kerosene & Jet fuel - 13%
  • Gas oil - 8%
  • Fuel oil - 15%
  • LPG/petrochemical feedstocks - 12%
  • Fuel gas/other - 6%
  • Waste - 1%
If you drove here today, then its almost inevitable that the fuel in your tank was produced here.
