Walatowa Mesa View Cache Traditional Cache

This cache is in the Jemez Mountains featuring some rugged terrain and steep elevation gains. It is just under 6300 feet elevation.
This is an ammo box cache located along the southern edge of the Jemez Mountains in an area with several scenic canyons and mesas. There are no trails to the cache, and the hike from the parking spot should be 3/4 of a mile or more depending on the route taken (there are several possibilities). There will be an elevation gain of nearly 500 feet, which is very steep at times with loose footing - so be careful.
The parking spot is located along HWY 4 between San Ysidro and Jemez Springs at N 35 42.339' W 106 43.684'
From the parking area, cross the road and begin at the entrance to a small canyon with a dry stream bed. Take plenty of water, and hiking boots are highly recommended.
