Old school house Horopito
Between Raetihi and National park on State Highway 4 is the small settlement of Horopito. Thanks to the efforts and generosity of the members and businesses with donations of time and money the "Old Horopito School " has been restored and is now ready for the community to enjoy. Contact the website for latest information. www.horopito.org.nz Township of Horopito Horipito motors wreckers is the largest and only vintage car dismantlers in Australasia. Horopito was the settling for the 1981 NZ feature film Smash Palace and Goodbye Pork Pie. . In the early days Horopiti was a bustling sawmilling town. It had a school, two hotels a bank, post office and numerous houses. in 1920/1030s Horipito fell into decline.Today nothing remains of the buildings . The cache is a small micro container hidden outside the grounds. No need to enter the fenced grounds. Note. Will be maintained by owners who travel past twice a month on way to holiday home at Lake Taupo.
