Follow the N5 towards Bloemfontein out of Bethlehem for about 16 kilometres. On your left you will see a prominent koppie with two cellphone towers close by. Almost next to the koppie, turn left at the T584 road. Go through the open gate and turn left again immediately to follow the jeep track. Follow the track till you get to a water reservoir and park there.
You should face the koppie with the road on the right of you. To the left of the koppie offer the easiest way up
When rigging up, you should face both the legs of the u bolt and the road must be on your right. Bring rope protection for the edge and two other places between the anchor and the edge just to play safe. Proceed down the open book feature for about two metres. Look towards your right, and about three metres away you will see a nice horizontal crack. Give yourself enough slack to traverse to that crack and find the container tied to a shrub growing in the crack.The cache is a small cylinder shaped plastic container with a screw cap. It contains only a log sheet and a pencil. If you drop the pencil,please notify me via e-mail so that I can replace it. We all know gravity never sleeps so it can happen. While we are on the topic. A eight year old child can gain access to the top of the koppie with safety, but once on top there are dangerous drop-offs at the edges. Children should be kept away from the edges and under constant adult supervision. Better still,leave them at home when doing this one. It is a easy cache with a little effort to access the actual container. You will need a rope of at least 35 metres to safely get down to the bottom if you tie into the anchor without using anchor straps. That means if two persons want to go down simultaneously, you cannot just halve a standard 50 metre rope,it will be too short. Either bring along a longer rope, or use two separate lines. When placing the cache, two of us went down at the same time but only one person can get to the crack at a time. By swinging over/past another you can swop places to log the find if you so wish.
