Geocache Description:

Portland Goats is a small sized cache on the bend of a track just above the location where the goats mainly congregate. The track can get muddy and slippery so be careful when walking it. It is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies.

The Portland Goats are a small herd of British Primitive goats, the original goat of the British Isles.  They have been re-introduced on Portland as an effective means at helping to control scrub. The goats are free-ranging and are hardy and self-sufficient getting most of the water they need from the plants they eat. They shelter in the rocks, caves and derelict outbuildings of the East Weares. There is a sign giving more information on the goats attached to the goat gate at the entrance to the path.

PLEASE NOTE:

·         It is important that the goats are not approached or hand fed for their own welfare.

·         Please keep dogs under control near the goats

·         Please close the gates
