The Portland Goats are a small herd of British Primitive goats, the original goat of the British Isles. They have been re-introduced on Portland as an effective means at helping to control scrub. The goats are free-ranging and are hardy and self-sufficient getting most of the water they need from the plants they eat. They shelter in the rocks, caves and derelict outbuildings of the East Weares. There is a sign giving more information on the goats attached to the goat gate at the entrance to the path.
PLEASE NOTE:
· It is important that the goats are not approached or hand fed for their own welfare.
· Please keep dogs under control near the goats
· Please close the gates
