Der Apollofalter (Parnassius apollo) ist ein weißer Schmetterling und hat eine Flügelspannweite von bis zu 88 mm. Der Vorderflügel hat mehrere schwarze Flecken. Auffällig sind seine roten Punkte auf den hinteren Flügeln, von denen zwei große meist besonders gut zu sehen sind.
Der Apollofalter lebt in Trockengebieten. Besonders die Kalkschieferhänge von Abraumhalden und Steinbrüchen bieten ihm Lebensraum. Als Nahrung dient ihm ausschließlich eine Pflanze mit dem Namen Fetthenne, die nur in dieser Umgebung vorkommt.
Der Apollofalter gilt als gefährdet oder vom Aussterben bedroht.
The Mountain Apollo (Parnassius apollo) is a white butterfly and has a wingspan of up to 88 mm. The front wing has several black spots. Remarkable are his red dots on the rear wings. Two o them are good to see, even if the Apollo sits.
The Mountain Apollo lives in drylands. Especially the limestone slopes and stone pits offer him habitat. A plant called sedum, the only food for the Apollo, grows only in this environment.
The Apollo is considered to be endangered or threatened with extinction.
