This cache is located near the Berkeley Marina along a beautiful path that provides spectacular views of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.
It is one of my "wild bird caches"--each of which is named after wild bird species that I happened to see from GZ while hiding the cache.
This particular cache is dedicated to the Western Grebe--a diving bird characterized by their long , almost serpent-like necks, sharp beaks and beady eyes. Many Western Grebes spend the winter in the SF Bay Area and they can often be seen swimming along with little more than their head and neck above water as they look for fish and small crustaceans upon which to feed.
As I placed this cache, one of these dashing fellows cruised along the shoreline for several feet before slipping below the surface--presumably to ruin a small fish's day.
This area sees a lot of bike/foot traffic and there is a volleyball court very nearby--so the use of stealth will be necessary. In fact, to account for the high muggle traffic (and the numerous possible hide locations), I have raised the difficulty of this one by 1/2 star.
As always, please be sure to replace the cache as found.
**Congratulations to SnoWake for FTF and thanks to Jellis for posting the photo!**
