This cache is found in the Northern section of McLaughlin Eastshore State Park. While there, you will have lovely views of the the bay and Berkeley's Cesar E. Chavez Park.
The cache is one of my "wild bird caches"--each of which is named after a wild bird species that I happened to see near GZ while hiding the cache.
This particular cache is dedicated to the Great Blue Heron--a majestic bird which is often seen patrolling the banks and shallows of calm bodies of water, searching for fish, reptiles, amphibians, crustaceans or mollusks.
Familiar to most who spend any time near water, great blue herons are tall birds (often up to 4' tall), with stilt-like legs, a long, flexible neck and a long dagger-like beak. The body plumage is a blue-gray color with black tips and the birds can often be slowly flying to their destination with large wings and their neck folded tightly into their body.
As I searched for a location to place this cache, a lone, stately adult heron was stalking the mud flat in search of dinner.
This cache is a small/medium camo'd plastic jar hidden well off the main perimeter trail.
Note that the park is closed from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am.
Because of the relatively rough terrain around GZ (which can include mud or standing water during wet weather periods) and the placement of the cache, this one is not wheelchair accessible.
While the park does get a fair amount of visitors, because this location is off-trail, muggles should not be much of a problem.
Please replace the cache as found to keep it hidden.
**Congratulations to Team Io-Honu and Berkeley Boomers for the co-FTF!**
