Geocache Description:

This cache is located along a quiet section of canal on the way towards the old tunnel at Husbands Bosworth. The spot has a Living Milestone planted by the Old Union Canals Society - these run all the way along the Leicester section of the canal so keep your eyes open for them.

The canal towpaths around Foxton are well populated with walkers and tourists, but this cache is placed in a much quieter, less walked section of the canal on the Grand Union stretch from Foxton towards the old tunnel at Husbands Bosworth.

The Leicestershire and Northampton Union Canal reached Gumley in 1797, but did not reach Market Harborough until 1809. The canal was then extended out past Market Harborough following the contours of the land towards Warwick.  This section is one of the longest level stretches in the whole canal system. Two tunnels were required to complete this stretch of canal, one at Crick and one at Husbands Bosworth.

This is a milestone themed cache. For more UK milestones visit the milestone society website at http://www.milestonesociety.co.uk/ and check out flipflopnick's milestone cache list here http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=ccc5d062-8a4c-47b0-af44-38c1387a2b2c
