Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches dedicated to the reminiscence and admiration of Roseville’s early dwellers. It is part of a series of caches called: “CACHE OUT IN ROSEVILLE”

This cache is located along Walerga Road, which turns into Fiddyment Road a little north of here. This cache pays tribute to the Fiddyment family of yesteryear. The matriarchal leader of the Fiddyment family, Elizabeth Jane - a widow, crossed the plains in 1854 with her infant son, to join a sister and a brother-in-law near Elk Grove, CA. When son Walter Jr. was six, the family moved to the Pleasant Grove District where they were reunited with another sister who, with her husband, farmed a large tract of land between present day Roseville and Lincoln. Over the years Mrs. Fiddyment, who outlived two additional husbands, acquired vast land holdings in western Placer County. Her grown son acquired additional lands and became one of the leading grain and stock ranchers in the county. Members of the Fiddyment family have lived and worked on the family ranch to this very day. In 1993, some 1,200 acres were sold to the Del Webb Corporation for a retirement community. Today, new houses and commercial properties are being constructed on the former vast property

There is an interesting round brick structure here – not too far from the road. But it is now located behind a wall and is inaccessible to us geocachers. Thus the former name – “What the Heck Was This Thing?”   What do you think this was??? There is parking south of the nearby stream at Dry Creek Community Park.
