This is the fifth of my “elemental” caches on this stretch of the Grantham Canal, where the element or it’s atomic number form part of the clue. It can be done as a “cache and dash” or in conjunction with several other caches along this lovely canal which is resplendent with wildlife.
The initial co-ordinates will take you to a location where you will find the clue to lead you to the final cache location. The initial location is the site of the former Bottesford Wharf although there is little other than the access lane and an open area to indicate the site’s former status.
The tow path on this stretch of the canal is grassed and therefore, although flat, it may be somewhat muddy and slippy when wet and therefore this cache is probably not suitable for those requiring wheelchair or puschair access, particularly in wet weather - similarly there are steps and a stile.
I am sorry but although parts of the tow path are fairly accessible the final cache itself is NOT SUITABLE for youngsters or those with limited mobility due to it's location.
There is a metal girder / pipe across the canal near here, protected by a fencing barrier – THE BANK BEYOND THE BARRIER AND TOWARDS THE GIRDER DROPS SHARPLY AWAY AND IS COVERED WITH BRAMBLES ETC - THIS IS NOT THE CACHE LOCATION NOR THAT OF THE INITIAL CLUE. YOU WILL NOT NEED TO CROSS THE BARRIER TO LOCATE EITHER THE CLUE OR THE CACHE. STAY SAFE.
The usual caveats about children and water apply to this and all my caches on the canal. Stay safe, have fun.
The cache itself is a small container with sufficient room for the log and a few very small swaps or Travel Bugs / Geocoins.
