Valdosta seems to have a severe lack of night caches, so fear no more. I have placed one!
Be prepared for a short hike through fairly moderate terrain. Some thorns are present, but there are no major obstacles along the path.
TheGeoZodiac Presents: 'After Dark at Forrest Park' - A Night Cache!
The coordinates below will take you to your starting location, where you will begin your hike to the cache. After you have parked and made your way to these coordinates, put away your GPS and start searching for the reflective tacks to guide you the rest of the way. You should see the first tack immediately upon reaching the starting coordinates. This is a good time to double check that you have spare batteries for your flashlight, just in case!
Coordinates: N 30 52.907 W 83 14.493
At first, you will notice a few trees with only one single reflective tack on each. This signifies that you are walking on the correct path. When you see any tree that has three tacks placed together in a downward slant, the direction of the downward slant is the direction in which you will turn and keep walking. Eventually, after you have made your way somewhat deep into the woods, you will come to a tree that has several reflective tacks on it in the shape of a large cross, similar to the ‘+’ symbol. You won’t miss it, trust me! It is at this tree where you will shine your light around, looking for more trees with single tacks on them. The trees with single tacks signify the outer boundary of the search location. Do not go beyond these tacks – you will have gone too far if you do! The search location is the area between the tree with the cross symbol and the trees with the single tacks to mark the outer boundary. If you are facing in a particular direction and do not see any tacks, do not search in that direction. Some single-tacked trees are further away from the cross symbol than others, but the idea is the same - stay inside the boundary. Think of this boundary as a large semi-circle.
You’ll be looking for a standard sized Ammo Can. The Ammo Can is not heavily camouflaged, but it does have a little bit of ABU-patterned duct tape around it. Other than what has been stated already, no more clues will be offered with regards to the cache’s location.
Inside the cache container you will find two separate plastic Rubbermaid containers. Each one is labeled according to the items intended to be placed inside of them to keep the cache container organized. One Rubbermaid container is to be used for all Trackables and small trinkets, such as action figures and other tiny items. The second container is to be used for personal promotional items, such as your business cards, team logos, etc. For all other swag items, please place them neatly inside the ammo can when you are finished. I ask that you keep the cache container organized to the best of your ability. I will check up on it every couple of weeks for maintenance, but please contact me as soon as possible if it becomes too disorganized or needs immediate repair. I will normally be able to take care of it the same day it is reported.
Original items:
