This is a quick drive by cache that is at one of our favourite summer locations. This site has recently undergone a rather substantial upgrade for the pleasure of visitors and campers alike.
Lake Meran has long been a favourite location for summer recreational activities for the local communities. After a very lengthy drought period in the 2000's this lake dried out completely and the picnic areas fell into disrepair. The local tennis club continued playing nearby but the refreshing swim in the lake after a hot afternoons play was not to be. Minor flooding in 2010 caused the lake to fill after many years of being empty. During January 2011 there was widespread and very devastating floods in the area. The tennis courts were damaged to such an extent that all matches had to be transferred to the courts in Kerang. The facilities near the lake also suffered much damage. Thanks to the hard work of the local community and extensive financial input from many Rotary clubs Australia wide, the foreshore received a much needed upgrade. A new children's playground was installed complete with approved fencing. A camp kitchen was built on the grounds of the old Camp Slade site. Picnic tables and chairs were placed along the shoreline. The nearby tennis courts were also rebuilt and play resumed on them in the 2012-2013 tennis season. The foreshore upgrade was officially opened on New Years Day 2013.
This cache has been placed in an accessible area that can be a quick drive by but please stay and enjoy the area. You are looking for a small sistema container which holds a log book, pencil and has room for a few small swaps.
