Geocache Description:

A small Cache and dash located next to a now defunct railway bridge.  This is a surprisingly busy area and is overlooked by a pub so stealth is required!

Llanpumpsaint on the Carmarthen and Cardigan Railway opened on 28th March 1864 as part of a Broad Gauge line to connect Cardigan to the South Wales Railway at Carmarthen. Never a commercial success the CCR did not reach Cardigan and was taken over by the GWR IN 1881. Llanpumpsaint was on the long climb up towards Pencader Tunnel, the highest point of the line between Carmarthen and Pencader. In 1956 there were four trains each way with the train taking twenty five minutes to get from Carmarthen to Llanpumsaint. Along with the rest of the Carmarthen-Aberystwyth line passenger traffic ceased in 1965 although milk traffic from Felinfach and Pont Llanio continued until 1973.
