Geocache Description:

An ordinary cache at an extraordinary location.

A simple magnetic nano cache container placed at an extraordinary location known locally as 'Island Hill' on the outskirts of Comber.  Island Hill is located at the upper end of Strangford Lough and offers excellent views across the Lough and over towards Scrabo Tower.

Island Hill and Rough Island are especially good feeding sites for thousands of waders and wildfowl that migrate here in the autumn and winter months. It is the significant numbers of birds that is one of the reasons that gives this part of Strangford Lough so many protective designations.

While this can be a quick cache and dash if you want it, I'd recommend parking up and taking the time to enjoy the views and if the tide conditions are favourable, walk along the concrete causeway to Rough Island, walk around the Island then return to the car park. This is a total walk of approx. 1.5 miles. When you're on Rough Island, there are two caches already placed there, http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC1XW8W and http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC26V7V.

There is ample free car parking at GZ, picnic tables and disabled toilets accessible with a RADAR key.

So, come on down to one of my favourite spots on the Ards Peninsula, grab yourself a quick smiley face and enjoy the peace and tranquility that is Island Hill and Rough Island.
