Geocache Description:


Burnt Point Fort is one of the several forts located at the Ferry Point in St. George's Bermuda.

There is nothing much remaining other than some scramble of ruins. As you stand at the site, you will be able feel the isolated atmosphere of the 17th century when the British gunmen were stationed here.

Built in 1688, Burnt Point Fort was used to protect the western entrance of Ferry Reach, a channel that connects the St. George Harbor with Castle Harbor in eastern Bermuda.


The fort was built not only to defend attacks from the enemy ships, it was also used to supervise any illegal sea trading by the locals.

In 1740s, Governor Alured Popple mounted five cannons on the fort. It was badly damaged and later repaired by Captain Andrew Durnford in the 1790s.

From the fort site, if you look towards Smith's Parish, you will be able to still see the support structure that was used for Bermuda Railways that was once operational in the island and now fast becoming a fading memory.

How to reach Located near Ferry Point, St. George Bermuda. Bus route #1, 3, 10, 11. Please note if you are traveling by bus, once you get off the Bus, its a good hike to Ferry Point Reach,br/>
