According to an article from the Manawatu Standard dated 23 December 1901:
The opening and blessing of the new Catholic Church at Ashhurst took place yesterday morning at 11 o'clock.
The pretty little church was crowded to the doors, people having gone long distances to witness the proceedings.
To my research, St Columba's Catholic Church is (one of?) the last remaining Churches in the Manawatu to offer services in Latin
for obvious reasons, please don't attempt this cache during Church service hours! (as detailed on the attached "sign board" photo)
for personal knowledge, I would like to do some further research on the unusual (bell?) tower at the rear of the Church building.
You're welcome to mention such information regarding this in your log if you find it
The cache is placed outside of the church grounds. There is no need to go inside the gates unless you wish to admire the stained glass windows or to have a chuckle at the names on the dedication plaque
