Geocache Description:

This Cache has been placed at a good viewing position for the new Laser Lights and the Weymouth Eye Observation Tower - Please carefully remove nano from its host to sign the log

When you log your find please do not give anything away in words or photographs. This is a high muggle area especially in summer so please be stealthy. Please bring your own pencil to sign the log.

The Lasers are no more but to be honest they were a bit rubbish and the tower dismantled and taken elsewhere - but on the plus side we now have some new LED multi coloured lights along the strech of the promenade.

The cache will remain in place and the following info remains for historical purposes.

The Weymouth Lasers
The Weymouth laser lights were officially switched on in May 2012 – in time for the Olympics.

The scheme, which involves seven 16-metre high columns with lighting projected from the promenade over the beach and into the sea.
Each column will be a different colour and each will include a different vertical coloured light within the structure of the column.
They are programmed to change over time, moving vertically and horizontally, in circular motions with split beams. The experience will also vary depending on weather and lighting conditions each night.

They begin half an hour after sunset and will go on and off every six minutes through the evening, with a different pattern of lights each time. They will stay on until midnight in winter and 1am in summer.

The lasers replace the much loved ‘fairy lights’ which adorned the seafront for many years.

The Weymouth Eye

The Weymouth Eye is a 53m (173ft) high observation tower, situated at the far end of the Promenade. It was completed and opened in April 2012 and is expected to remain at its current location for 5 years.
The Eye contains a glass pod that slowly rotates as it climbs the full height of the tower, providing visitors a 360 degree view over Weymouth Bay and along both lengths of the Jurassic Coast.
The 53m (173ft) Weymouth Eye has a gondola which takes visitors up to give them views of the harbour and the Jurassic Coast.
Sections of the tower were transported from France and Hungary.
The central steel column was assembled in five sections, each weighing 11 tonnes.
The crown, which was lifted into place in March 2012, also controls the engine which will drive the viewing gondola.
