Geocache Description:


This is a little known affliction that is becoming a worldwide epidemic. As few professionals in the medical and psychological fields have seen or studied. The Center for Disease Control in Atlanta is just now studying this affliction. They have came to the conclusion that the very first case was in May of 2000 when a man named Dave Ulmer in state of Oregon hid a bucket for others to find. It then spread uncontrollable over the world wide web to every part of the globe and is now in space on the International Space Station. They also observed a thing called travel bugs that sometimes carry it from place to place which one of these has made to International Space Station. The Center could not confirm the number of suspected cases but can only say it is in the hundred of thousands. With new cases appearing every day. Whole generations of families can be infected by it. Being passed from parents not knowingly to there children, then grandchildren.

The Center is advising everyone with this affliction to seek medical help at once in order to keep in check. At the time of this report there was no cure as all they can do is try to keep from spreading and ease the symptoms. They have came up with a report of the start and symptoms of advanced CACHE---ISM.

Here is condensed version of it as we are afflicted with it and was able to obtain from a source asked not to be identified.
There are three phases of this affliction as reported .

EXPOSURE. As they reported it can happen innocently by love ones or friends that don’t know they have it or just a carrier of it. This happens when visiting them and they start talking about the game as they call it. They will tell you what you need to play. Where to obtain the cache listing. Show you the little devious device all cachers need. It is some sort of GPS receiving device. Be it car ,handheld or smartphone. Then you will be asked to go with them for a try. A lot will find it quite interesting. Now it has you.

MIDDLE STAGE. This is a gradual occurrence that happens to some it may take up to a year others may reject the infection all together. But the ones heading for the last stage will occasionally get on the website to look for hunting spots. They will check for new ones. They will as they go shopping stop for a few short hunts. The occasional park and grab. They may hide a few. As time goes by it starts to happen more often. They now find themselves on wooded trails or behind a business not knowing what it is they are looking for but knowing they have to find it. This is the start of the Final Stage.

Final Stage. CACHE---ISM. It may take time to get to this stage and there are more then known with it. Here is what you should look out for. At the start of this you will be finding yourself on the website ever day looking for new ones. You will have email notification sent to you for the new ones. Now when you say your going shopping you actually are going caching as shopping is the excuse to hunt. Everywhere you travel you carry a bag of TOTT {Tools Of The Trade} just incase you decide to make a hunt or hide one. You may be hiding a lot more with this too being part of the affliction. When driving by a sign or guard rail you wonder should you stop for there might be a cache hid there. The afflicted might see a clump of trees and wonder is one hidden in it or that would be a good place to hide one. You are using word associated with it. A few examples are MUGGLE, MICRO, SWAG and SKIRT LIFTER. Driving in a parking lot you head for the light post not a parking spot. For some with extreme case when a new one shows up out the door you go for the hunt. For the First To Find as it is called. When you get to it the anticipation of a FTF starts to consume you. As you read about the cache you wonder how it is hid, what can it be, is it a small size that is smaller then a dime. Or is it a huge ammunition can filled with goodies. On the hunt you may be there for a hour or more for you do not want to post a DID NOT FIND. If this happens you make it a obsession of going back to get the find. Now instead of the short fast hunt you may be out all day far away from civilization digging thru thorn bushes, rock piles, or cedar trees. You are visiting out of the way cemeteries not to visit love ones but to find an elusive hide. You are now traveling long distances as you have found the ones that are close to your area. When you plan a vacation instead of looking for interesting sites to see you plan around the caches that can be found One good sign if you and your wife has their own GPSr.

With all that have the affliction be it EXPOSURE or
CACHE---ISM. There is help. There are now events that you can go to. At these you talk to others like you. As you talk about the experiences and the hunts. The places that have been visited. The type of hides that have been hunted. At some you may go out for some short hunts. This will help dealing with it.

Now for the cache. You will be hunting for a well hidden container as the size will not be told. The owners of the adjacent businesses know about the placement. Also the property owner has given permission for the placement. THIS IS A DAYLIGHT CACHE ONLY. When you walk to the clump of trees and wonder is it an ammunition can or a nano. Is it under rocks or in the trees. Remember the symptoms described above. As we have self diagnosed ourselves as having a extreme case of CACHE---ISM. When logging the find please report what stage that you might be infected with. Enjoy the hunt and be safe out there. For you that have been just exposed or in the middle stage bring TOTT for signing and extraction. The one with extreme case you will always have them with you.
