Ms.CallaLily: The tree in which this geocache was placed isn't looking too healthy, and many branches have been cut off. It's not really a good hiding place anymore, so I am archiving this cache.

Geocache Description:

In order to complete this field puzzle geocache, you will be visiting Westview Cemetery in beautiful Brunswick, Ohio.

The posted coordinates will bring you to the Veteran’s Memorial at the cemetery which features a gazebo, a symbolic empty tomb which is dedicated to the memory of all of the soldiers who went off to war but never came home, and a permanent registry of local veterans who are buried here.

All of the information that you must collect to figure out the coordinates for the geocache itself can be found in this general area. It would be a good idea to have a pen and paper with you! The final is a micro with a log sheet only.

Use this formula:

To solve for AB: There are inscriptions on the sides of the empty tomb. How many letters are in the words that are inscribed on the WEST side of the tomb. Take this number and SUBTRACT 2.

To solve for C: How many permanent flag poles are in the immediate vicinity of where you are standing? Take this number and SUBTRACT 4.

Now look at the registry of the veterans who are interred here at Westview Cemetery.

To solve for D: How many Revolutionary War soldiers are buried here?

To solve for E: Find the names of the Civil War veterans. How many are named Albert? How many are named Henry? ADD these two digits together and SUBTRACT 3.

To solve for FG: This Veteran’s Memorial was built and dedicated by the members of the local American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. Find the Post numbers and ADD all of the individual digits together. Take this sum and MULTIPLY by 2.

To solve for H: How many soldiers with the first name of Elijah were veterans of the War of 1812? Take this number and ADD 3.

To solve for J: The first World War I veteran to be laid to rest here was buried on 3-14-19XY. ADD X and Y together. Take this sum and ADD 2.

Brunswick Trivia Tidbit: William Eyssen is interred here at Westview Cemetery. He was a lifelong resident of Brunswick and was very active in the community. He and his wife Jane transformed the nearby Mapleside Farms from a small roadside produce stand into a thriving business and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Medina County. He came to be affectionately known as “Apple Bill.”

To solve for K: "Apple Bill" was a World War 2 veteran. What is the last digit in the year of his death? Take this number and SUBTRACT 5.

6-19-16: It looks like some tree trimming has taken place, and the container has been moved a bit. Since taking new coordinates would require re-working the entire puzzle, I have decided to leave everything as is. Just use your geosense and maybe look a teeny bit west of where your GPS directs you.

This is a winter-friendly geocache. All of the information should be easily visible even when there is a fair amount of snow on the ground. As for the cache itself, it would be as easy (or as difficult!) to find in the winter as it would be in summer.

Remember, this is a cemetery. Please, be respectful and only seek this geocache during daylight hours!
