Geocache Description:

This traditional cache is a 1 liter sistema container located on the saddle 30 minutes before Roy's Peak is reached.  This is 1,000 vertical meters above the car park and takes about 2 to 2.5 hours of steady walking up a well formed 4WD type farm track

This view reveals itself as the saddle is reached;  Glendhu Bay,  the Matukituki River with Tititea/Mt Aspiring in center back ground of the Southern Alps.  A place deserving a stop and 5 mins scenic appreciation before heading up the last 250 vertical meters to Roy's Peak.
Advise early morning start before it gets too hot and take water and sun protection.

Keep an eye out for the Karearea (NZ native falcon - featured on the NZ$20 note) on the upper slopes as this is typical habitat and they are often seen on this walk.  Much smaller than the more common Harrier, the Karearea is finely featured, very fast and takes prey on the wing.

Note; this track is closed for lambing 1st October to 10th November.
