Geocache Description:

A once abandoned cemetery that was resurrected to be a useful, historical cemetery.

Cache is log only, no pen provided. I have brought you here to view a very old cemetery that was established back in the 1800's. According to the web site of St. Joseph's Church, there is a mass grave located here from a mine explosion in 1892. The cache has been placed so that you may drive around through the cemetery to view the old memorials. NOTICE there are a couple of memorials that are cast iron. I don't recall seeing any memorials other than those of wood or stone. I grew up in this area, and as a child played (explored) through this cemetery. At the time it was not being used and was a field of brush and briars. I am glad to see that is a very used part of the community again. Walk around and view the old monuments. Did you find the ones cast in iron? Did you find some that are not in English? *****Congratulations to JFFOK for first to find and for her trip to McAlester for the caches.*****
