The ninth in the "Wellies and Wine" series
You are now approaching quiet and pretty hamlet of Coddington, derived from its Anglo-Saxon name, Cotyntone (which I think translates as “muddy cottages”).
Today, Coddington is well known for its Vineyard, its Christmas Trees and for its Grade II listed mansion, Coddington Court. All Saints Church dates from the 13th Century (the present building was reconstructed in 1864).
There are records of winegrowing in the region as far back as the 13th Century. Coddington Vineyard in its present form was planted in 1985 and a footpath runs through the middle of it if you fancy a visit!
