Geocache Description:

A strong wind will often blow directly up the mountain valley or "neck", leading to it's Afrikaans name - "waai" - blow, "nek" - neck. NOTE: Please replace the cache as you found it!

The road forks here from the Somerset East side, with the left-hand road becoming a dead end at the top of the mountain, near the town dam. The right-hand fork goes down the Kariega Valley, and ends up on a dirt road along the Great Fish River, running between Cookhouse and Craddock (parallel to the N10). Just before the fork, driving up from the R63/Glen Avon side of the mountain, look to your left down Glen Avon valley. Across the valley, against the cliffs, you can see the Glen Avon Falls (the subject of another cache in the series). Immediately on your left is a corner of the Waainek Wildflower Reserve, on private property. Within this reserve are a number of very rare species of wildflower, such as: DISA LUGENS (Breaded Orchid) HAEMANTHUS CARNEUS DIERAMA GRANDIFLORA CYTANTHUS MACOWANII KNIPHOFIA ACREA and others. To view the reserve, you can call the owner, Philip Erasmus: (T) +27 42 243 3561 (C) +27 83 274 2870
