In 1999, the United States Mint's 50 State Quarter Program began. It was a 10 year initiative that honored each of the nation's states in the order that they ratified the Constitution or were admitted into the Union. Each quarter was only produced for about 10 weeks and will never be reproduced again. State designs are displayed on the reverse (tails) of the quarters, while the obverse design (heads) displays the familiar image of George Washington.
The kids and I have been collecting state quarters for years. The goal is to eventually have an entire roll of each state for each person. It is still going to take us awhile to obtain that goal! About once a year on a rainy day, we will pull out the bags of quarters to sort, count and roll what we have collected over the year. It has been a fun project for us and we are happy to find a way to share it with you.
