This park is named after an Olympic Gold Medalist Wyomia Tyus who was born in Spalding Co. on Aug. 29, 1945. She became the 1st sprinter in Olympic history to win consecutive gold medals for the 100 meter dash. Spalding County obtained the land to build Wyomia Tyus Olympic Park in 1993. In 1999 the park was completed using 1996 SPLOST funds. This beautiful regional park has 164 acres for all to enjoy.
