Ballabriggs Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The cache is a small clear clip, lock and seal box which is big enough for the log book, pencil small swaps, geocoins and travels bugs.
This cache is dedicated to the 2011 Grand National-winning racehorse, Ballabriggs.
Ballabriggs was trained by Donald McCain and ridden by Jason Maguire.
Ballabriggs became quite dehydrated in the unusually hot weather of April 9th and immediately returned to the stable after the win, instead of going to the winner’s enclosure as tradition dictates. It was the first time only the jockey entered the winner's enclosure without his mount. They had completed the race in 9 minutes 1.2 seconds, the second-fastest time in Grand National history. Ballabriggs had held off a gallant charge from Oscar Time. The two horses were travelling the best throughout and jumped the last together leaving them to battle it out on the run in.
Ballabriggs joined the 2005 Grand National winner Hedgehunter, who lives in retirement at Ballaseyr Stud, Andreas, for a well-deserved holiday after running the second fastest Grand National in the event’s 164-year history.
Trevor Hemmings is the first owner ever to have won the race twice with two different horses.
Ballabriggs was 6th in the 2012 Grand National. He is now retired and living just across the fields from this cache.
