May we suggest that you please use hand sanitiser before and after finding this cache - thanks 😊This cache is the first in a 3 part series dedicated to Australian chess players of whom you may not have heard. It is also the second in the series called BTW - By The Water. The cache contains a clue to the location of the final cache (#4 BTW chess - Johansen). You will also need the clue from the #3 BTW chess - Rogers cache to find the final.

Cecil John Seddon Purdy (27 Mar 1906 – 6 Nov 1979) was an Australian chess International Master (IM) and international chess Correspondence grandmaster. He won the Australian Chess Championship in 1935, 1937, 1949 and 1951. He won the New Zealand chess championship in 1924 and the World Correspondence chess championship in 1953. He was also an influential chess magazine writer, editor, and publisher. He was editor of Chess World from 1946 until 1967. Purdy competed in 139 over-the-board chess tournaments, 43 telegraphic matches and 14 other matches. Between 1923 and 1979 he played 1586 competitive games over-the-board, winning 69 per cent of them. More details of the life and chess of Cecil Purdy can be found at history..
