Getting ready for a good time!!!!! Lake Cumberland State Resort Park is amping up for our 8th Earth Day Geocache Event. Mark your calendars for April 19-21, 2013 and get ready for great caching fun!
Lake Cumberland SRP will be hosting its 8th Annual Earth Day Geocache Event April 19 - 21, 2013. You don’t want to miss the fun, food, games, caches, prizes, and this year’s “twist”! Come prepared to have a blast, meet new cachers, and have a great time finding some of the most challenging caches anywhere.
There will be 30-35 caches on Saturday and 10-15 caches on Sunday. The caches on Saturday will have a challenge theme and the winner will receive a very nice surprise. The caches will be designed so you can do the challenge, or just find the caches if you choose. It will be fun either way!
There will be camping, cottages, or lodge rooms available. There are a limited number of rooms set aside for the event and they will be on a first come first serve basis. If you want to reserve a room at the special event rate, ask for the Lure Lodge Geocache Weekend block special event rate, 1-800-325-1709. Once those rooms are rented there will be a limited amount of regular rate room and cabins left to rent. You are not required to stay on the park to attend the event.
We will launch the weekend on Friday evening April 19, 2013 at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park with registration beginning at approximately 5:30 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. CDT in the main lobby at Lure Lodge, and ending the event at 12 noon on Sunday April 21, 2013. We will have a brief meet and greet at 8:00 pm CST in the activity center.
Caching will commence promptly at 8:00 a.m. CDT both Saturday and Sunday morning at Lake Cumberland S.R.P. and will end at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. We will meet briefly each morning to disseminate coordinates and your cache packet. In order to possibly download the coordinates, please do not forget to bring your USB cord with you, otherwise you will have to do it manually.
***** Travel bugs and coins welcomed if you want to bring them or drop them for others to discover or move.
Cache difficulty ranges from 1-5.....Terrain levels are in an average range but the fact that many will be on park trails is why the difficulty level is 3.5 stars. Caches are placed close to trails which make them easily accessible. Caution should be exercised when walking on any trail. Also there will be numerous caches placed at short walking distance from parking. There will be several FTF prizes.
*****We will have event T-shirts but you must pre-register by March 15, 2013 and include your shirt sizes and the amount you want. We will have a limited amount of extra event T-shirts first come first served. The cost of the T-shirts is $12 each for sizes S,M,L, and XL. Please add $1 extra for 2X and 3X sizes.
Registration is $30 per couple, $20 per individual, and $10 for children 12 & under. Pr-registration for the event is not required, but is greatly appreciated. It helps us with planning and preparation for the event more effectively.
More event information will be disseminated during the meet and greet on Friday evening after registration. Mark your calendars now for April 19-21, 2013 and join the fun!
