The extension of the Tecumseh Bike Trail in New Carlisle to the south of town along Rt 235 was completed this month and the trail is now open to bikers and walkers. The southern part of the original trail as well as the extension follows a former Penn Central Railroad line and an old train trestle over Honey Creek.
The project was 100 percent federally-funded, provided through the Clark County-Springfield Transportation Coordinating Committee from two Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grants, and required no local matching funds.
A further extension south another two miles to Park Layne is in the planning stages.
This is also the site of a different kind of Ground Zero -- the spot where an EF0 tornado touched down on April 27th, 2011 causing significant damage to several buildings in town and destroying dozens of trees in this area, and there have been several damaging windstorms since. You will have to successfully negotiate one of the victims in order to claim this cache. Please re-hide at least as well as you found it.
