Geocache Description:

A small platic box with swaps as listed - Geocoin FTF OC8645; "I am 90" badge; Isle of Man TT badge; Pencil sharperner; Yellow pencil; Heart eraser. Hidden in a depression quite near the tarn.

"Tikkie's Tarn, on Langbar Moor, was a favourite place for the last of our clan of JR Terriers. We would often visit this place on walks up to the Beacon. A much missed character, we place this cache in her memory and for the wonderful walks she encouraged us to take. The tarn is on the south east side of Beacon hill, the cache is under some Calluna vulgaris in a depression to the north of the tarn, a few feet from the path. Please take care not to damage the plants when retrieving it. When there take a few moments to soak up the atmosphere of this very special place. Parking is not easy but there is some roadside space and also a small parking area to the west of Langbar's roadside houses. Langbar Moor and the Beacon can be accessed from here or take a short walk east along to the un-made-up road on the south side of Beacon Hall to the SE corner of the property, a sharp left turn on to a path before the neighboring property leads to the moor. Please respect the privacy of these properties and the following comments of the Landowners, Bolton Abbey Estates in permitting this cache to be placed, "there is a public footpath to the Cairn just beyond the Beacon and dogs should remain under close control at all times. Beyond the Cairn the path is permissive and dogs are not allowed. Access may be restricted during the grouse shooting season from 12th August to 10th December". There are often sheep on the moor so it is most important that dogs are kept under close control at all times.
