Pioneer Baptist Cemetery was once home to a geocache that successfully resided here for a shade over 6 years, but has recently fallen off the map.
A cemetery without a geocache is like a car without an engine - what's the point? We have placed a new micro in the cemetery grounds, in the wooded area away from the markers.
My knowledge of the history here remains limited, but this was once known as the Dryden Baptist Cemetery, seemingly named after the Dryden family who owned a substantial farm in the area and became involved in local and provincial politics. Both James Dryden and son John Dryden served as reeve (mayor) of Whitby, and John Dryden moved onto provincial politics after his defeat. John Dryden was also an ardent Baptist and a board member of the Baptist church. This cemetery would appear to be named after one or both of these Drydens. Dryden Township was also named for John Dryden.
This cache may be available in some winters, but not all winters.
