Geocache Description:

This cache will take you to The Rifle Range Wetlands. This is one of three wetland areas around Wonthaggi the others being the Wonthaggi Wetlands and Baxter's Wetlands. The Rifle Wetlands contain a bird hide and easy walking tracks.

The Rifle Range has a history going back to 1911 when the Wonthaggi Rifle Club (WRC) was formed. The WRC became a valued part of the Wonthaggi sporting scene which continued up until its last shoot on August 2nd 1997. This came about because the butts where inspected and found to be unsafe for the marker to erect the targets. The butts and lifting system required a substantial sum to repair and this came in the wake of the Port Arthur massacre so it was decided to close the range. The site passed to Parks Victoria in 2005 and they turned it into what has become the Rifle Range Wetlands. These wetlands are linked to the Heathland Reserve and walking tracks to Harmer's Haven & the Coastal Reserve are kept in good condition.

The cache you are looking for is a standard green container with logbook and pencil and room for a couple of small swaps.
